It's Apple Day !

October 22, 2017

'Here's to thee old apple tree..."

The aim of Apple Day is to show and celebrate the immense diversity of local produce, beyond the limited varieties we see in supermarkets, and to make us aware of what we are in danger of losing.

Apple Day began back in 1990 in Covent Garden, and is now celebrated annually in towns, villages and gardens all over the UK.

At Borough Market the day was also linked with the‘October Plenty’ event. This colourful procession paraded from Shakespeare’s Globe to Borough Market bearing the ‘Corn Queene’ effigy, a symbol of the ‘plenty’ of the season’s harvest.

Of course, any English festival would not be complete without the traditional Morris Dancers!
